Installation ceremony

Dr. Kim Brooks was installed as Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s 13th president and vice-chancellor on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 during Fall Convocation ceremonies. Dr. Rustum Southwell was installed as Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s ninth chancellor as part of the same ceremony.

Presidential installation

After taking her pledge, Dr. Brooks chose to hand the Convocation stage over to Dr. Sherry Pictou instead of making a traditional installation speech. Dr. Pictou is a faculty member from Management and Law, who spoke to graduates about the Indigenous concept of seven generations of impact.

Dr. Southwell, Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s ninth chancellor, followed his installation pledge with a moving speech and powerful statement:

“After a lifetime this long, we do so many things. However, for the very first time, I believe, I am the first of anything in my life of such consequence – the first Black chancellor of Â鶹´«Ã½.â€Â
