The Arthritis Society, along with its supporters, share a vision and commitment to creating a world where people are free from the devastating effects of arthritis.
The Arthritis Society represents the six million Canadians living with arthritis today, and the millions more who are impacted or at risk. Through the trust and support of its donors and sponsors, the Arthritis Society is Canada’s largest charitable source of investment in cutting-edge arthritis research, funding more than $200 million in research projects since its founding – projects that have led to advancements in the diagnosis, treatment, and care of people with arthritis.
The Arthritis Society is very pleased to announce that despite the challenges of navigating a global pandemic, it has funded eight new awards that will inject more than $2.6 million into arthritis research over the next three years.
Stars Career Development Award
The Stars Career Development award has been created to firmly establish the career of early career investigators within five years of their first academic appointment and within 10 years of their most recent graduate or health professional degree. The research focus must be relevant to the Arthritis Society's 2020-2025 Research Strategy and five research focus areas: pain, OA, IA, childhood, and work.
In addition to the Arthritis Society 3-year award, the candidate’s host institution is required to commit to an additional three years of funding for a total of six years of protected research time.
In 2020, the Arthritis Society has funded three new Stars awards including Dr. Lisa Carlesso who will focus on improving the understanding of pain mechanisms in people with knee osteoarthritis.Â
Strategic Operating Grant ProgramÂ
The Strategic Operating Grant program provides funding to support research proposals that have clear relevance to the Arthritis Society's 2020-2025 Research Strategy and the five research focus areas: pain, OA, IA, childhood, and work.
