A two-day international symposium on Light Curing Resin Materials was held at Â鶹´«Ã½, Faculty of Dentistry on May 29th and 30th, 2014. The symposium was attended by 40 key opinion leaders from academia and industry.  Professor Richard Price, who organized the symposium, will be presenting some of the outcomes in his Keynote Lecture at the 2014 International Association of Dental Research meeting.
Over half of a general dentist’s income depends on the curing light and almost all of the dental resins and adhesives made depend on adequate light curing.  The symposium developed strategies to better inform dentists about their curing light, the importance of adequate light curing, and how manufacturers can improve the design of both their curing lights and resins. The potential negative impacts of using budget curing lights that are available online were discussed and a cautionary reminder has been issued by the Canadian Dental Association and the Dental Industry Association of Canada (DIAC) about the importance of purchasing and using licensed devices.Â
