Last week Â鶹´«Ã½ and the Univeristy of Strathclyde (Glasgow Scotland) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) relating to research collaboration on tidal energy.
The MOU was signed by Strathclyde's Executive Dean of Engineering, Dr. Scott MacGregor and Dr. Micheal Pegg, Mechanical Engineering Department Head at Â鶹´«Ã½. Members of the Scottish and Nova Scotia Governments were present during the signing.
The purpose of the research is to investigate cost-effective engineering solutions to extract and deliver energy from tidal flows. A key component of the project is to participate in a student exchange as part of the international collaboration between Â鶹´«Ã½ and the University of Strathclyde. Â
Student research will focus on introducing new tidal turbine blade designs. Specifically, a system engineering approach will be developed to optimize blade shape as well as mechanical components that will advance the science, methodologies and applications regarding the way power is captured.
