Bio

Melisa Marsman graduated from the Schulich School of Law in 2005, was called to the Bar in 2006, and has since practiced law in Nova Scotia in a variety of business law areas as a private practitioner as well as in-house legal counsel.

Melisa earned her LLM ('21) at the Schulich School of Law as well, where her research focuses on African Nova Scotians and the law, Critical Race Legal Theory, and property law. Her thesis, 鈥Redressing the Past to Repair the Present: The Role of Property Law in Creating and Exacerbating Racial Disparities in Wealth and Poverty in Nova Scotia,鈥 has been a guiding beacon for the work of the .

She was a Purdy Crawford Fellow for the 2022-2023 academic year. During this time, she was an instructor in African Nova Scotian Legal History, Issues, and Critical Race Theory, and taught Sale of Goods and Special Topics in African Nova Scotian鈥檚 and the Law.

Marsman became an Assistant Professor at the Schulich School of Law in July 2023.
