Community scientists contribute substantially to our understanding of the global plastic pollution crisis. In this lecture I will reflect on how the evidence can be made relevant for policy-making. I will discuss the quality of data collected by volunteers and present a vision for meaningful involvement of community scientists in legislation.

Dr. Tim Kiessling, a marine biologist with the School Lab, Kiel University, Germany, is a visiting post-doc at �鶹��ý. His work focuses on involving children and teachers in research with citizen and community science approaches.
