The 2016 Management Teaching Excellence Awards (MTEAs) were presented this week to two faculty members in the Rowe School of Business and one in the School of Information Management. Dr. Jenny Zhang, an associate professor of accounting in the Rowe School, and Ms. Jennifer Grek Martin, a lecturer in the School of Information Management, were each awarded $5,000 for their high-quality teaching. Dr. Hossam Ali-Hassan, associate professor of management information systems in the Rowe School won the top prize of $10,000.

Given annually, the MTEAs celebrate teachers who, per the award鈥檚 guidelines, 鈥渄isplay the qualities of superior teaching, excellent understanding of the subject area and interest in the needs of the students.鈥 Although candidates are not nominated by students, Student Ratings of Instruction scores are integral to the selection process, and the selection committee includes student members.

Students of the three award winners made the presentations to their teachers at the ceremony. (Dr. Louis Beaubien, director of the RSB, accepted the award on behalf of Zhang, who is on sabbatical.) An audience of colleagues and students filled the room.

The MTEAs, first awarded in 2010, are made possible by a donation from alumnus Bill Black, who spoke at the celebration. High-quality teaching is not always recognized, said Black, explaining his reasons for creating this award. He noted that it was fitting to have students presenting the awards, since they are the reason for 麻豆传媒 and for the Faculty of Management, both of which he has long supported.
