Students from Canada and the U.S. rise to the Ethics in Action challenge

Posted by Rowe School of Business on November 16, 2015 in News

On November 6-7, Â鶹´«Ã½'s Rowe School of Business hostedÌýitsÌý3rd annual Scotiabank Ethics in Action Case Competition and Conference. This entirely student-run event attracted students from across Canada as well as the U.S.

Ethics in Action was founded thanks to a generous grant from Scotiabank to provide an exciting and challenging event for students to learn about ethical leadership in today’s business environment. Ethics in Action includes a conference, business case competition and video/essay contests for students as well as the announcement of the Ethics in Action National Ethical Leadership Award. The event is fully organized and conducted by a student team from the Rowe School’s Corporate Residency MBA program.

We are proud to announce that Â鶹´«Ã½ placed first on the weekend in both the undergraduate and graduate case competitions. As well, second-year MBA student Patrick Brousseau took home the Ethics in Action Essay Competition prize.Ìý

This year there were 10 undergraduate teams and 5 MBA teams competing in the case competition from all over North America. Fantastic entries were submitted for the video/essay contests. The event’s highlight was the presentation of the National Ethical Leadership award to Professor Irwin Cotler, aÌýformer Member of Parliament (1999-2015) and former Attorney General and Minister of Justice in Paul Martin's Government.ÌýThroughout his legal career Professor Cotler made a fundamental impact on the development of the Canadian Charter of Rights and the priority of international justice for the Canadian government.

The Rowe School sends a big thank you to everyone who helped make this weekend possible: the organizing committee, advisors, speakers, competitors, judges, volunteers, and especially to our sponsor, Scotiabank.
