Far too many eligible voters don’t participate in municipal elections. Many may not even realize the extent to which municipal government plays a role in our lives. Whether it’s water treatment, transit, recreation programs, law enforcement, garbage pickup, snow removal, fire protection or environmental regulations - municipal governance touches our lives in a meaningful way every day.

The College of Continuing Education’s Local Government program and African Nova Scotian Affairs have developed a new website and initiative to inform potential voters and encourage them to get engaged.

The website, , contains important information for those considering a run for municipal office, addresses the need for more diversity in local government, as well as how the COVID-19 pandemic will impact how we cast our vote and campaign.

Municipal election day in Nova Scotia is fast approaching on Saturday, October 17, so now is the time to get involved, understand the issues at-hand and let your voice be heard.
