Sustainable Oceans 2015 Conference

Posted by Marine Affairs Program on April 1, 2015 in News

With the world’s longest coastline, Canada’s ocean jurisdiction spans across three oceans which support some of the most abundant and diverse marine ecosystems on earth. A complex array of social, economic and environmental changes are affecting our oceans and those who depend on it. Over seven million people live along Canada's coastline, but all Canadians are dependent on the health of our oceans. Maintaining our marine environments will require an interdisciplinary approach to developing innovative solutions.

The Sustainable Oceans 2015 student-led conference aims to bring together people and research from the Pacific, Arctic and Atlantic regions of Canada to increase awareness of Canadian's connections to our oceans.
The following three themes will be explored:

1) Ocean Technology
2) Ocean and Coastal Management and Policy

3) Community-based outreach and solutions

The conference will include a keynote address, panel discussion, oral presentations, and poster presentations. The conference is currently open for .

The conference is also holding a photography competition, and is looking for submissions from amateur photographers depicting what inspires them to care for Canada’s oceans. Learn about submitting a photograph .
