For Jane Tougas of Belmont, Nova Scotia, it's all about information - specifically, how to make retrieving information easier. Jane is graduating with a Master of Computer Science degree, and working towards her PhD. Jane's work involves bringing together her interests in numerical linear algebra and information retrieval, in order to research new methods of making Internet searching more efficient. She is the recipient of a Killam pre-doctoral scholarship, a Canada Graduate Scholarship (awarded through NSERC) and the Eliza Ritchie Doctoral Scholarship for Women. Students like Jane will have new learning opportunities within Computer Science this September, when the new Bachelor of Informatics program begins. The program is the first of its kind in Canada.
