Not since Adrienne Power has an athlete been given the top honour of 鶹ý athlete of the year for three consecutive years. Jeff Weiler has now garnered the highly coveted male-athlete-of-the-year award for the third consecutive year, making him only the second athlete to accomplish such a feat.
Mr. Weileris a fifth-year kinesiology student and a senior member of the menÕs volleyball team. He has been recognized for his contributions on and off the court, leading the Tigers to a fifth-place Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) finish, and earning such accolades as Academic All-Canadian status three times and CIS Libero of the Year for the fourth consecutive year.

Kathleen Spurr, a former member of the womenÕs basketball team, is the 2007 recipient of 鶹ýÕs A.J. ÒSandy” Young Award for her contribution to Nova Scotia sports as an athlete and a coach. She has had an impressive career as an athlete, despite not picking up basketball until her senior year of high school.Ms. Spurrworked hard and, under the guidance of Coach Carolyn Savoy, went on to earn a spot on CanadaÕs National Team only three years after taking up the sport.Ms. Spurrstill considersCoach Savoya mentor in coaching and life to this day.
Continually giving back to the sport she loves best,Ms. Spurrhas worked on several organizing committees and continues to develop future athletes as a coach with the Halifax Grammar School. In the past she has coached at the provincial level, administered and coached CanadaÕs Basketball Small Ball Program and served as assistant coach with the Tigers in 1992-94. In 2001,she was inducted into the Nova Scotia Sports Hall of Fame, recognized for her achievements on the court and in the sport of basketball.
