If you鈥檝e walked around Shirreff Hall or the LSC lately, chances are you鈥檝e noticed the newest additions to the University Children鈥檚 Centre and surrounding area.

Over the course of a 12-week project lead by Facilities Management, a new playground, gazebo and improved walkways have been built.

鈥淭he Children's Centre playground is greatly improved in size, appearance and interest,鈥 Garry Martell, project leader from Facilities Management. 鈥淭he walkways are well lit, spacious and they blend in seamlessly with those installed last year leading down to Shirreff Hall.鈥

Mr. Martell says there were several reasons behind this project鈥攖he need for an updated storm drain, wider walkways and enlarged play area for the children鈥檚 centre鈥攚hich they were able to tackle all at once.

The changes haven鈥檛 gone unnoticed: 鈥淲e are absolutely delighted with the beautiful new grounds, gazebo and playground,鈥 wrote parent Vanya Ewart whose daughter attends the daycare. 鈥淢y daughter and others really enjoy the incredible new park-like atmosphere you have created there.鈥

鈥淭he most noticeable benefit to the children鈥檚 centre is definitely the upgraded appearance,鈥 says Mr. Martell. 鈥淏ut we can't overlook the functional fact that now rainwater will not enter their space during heavy rains.鈥
