Remember Dal Reads from last year? The idea was that students would read one book in common and then get together in small groups to discuss it.

That book was The Book of Negroes by Canadian author Lawrence Hill. And this year, Dal Reads is proud to host Mr. Hill on campus. He鈥檒l give a lecture about his life, The Book of Negroes and his much-anticipated next novel on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 7 p.m. in Ondaatje Hall, Marion McCain Building.

聽鈥淚 don鈥檛 know what to say,鈥 responded Dal student Kyra Phillips.聽聽 鈥淥ne of the best books I鈥檝e ever read. Incredibly inspiring. A book that shows how far society has progressed.鈥

The Book of Negroes has also聽been published with the name Someone Knows My Name.

The Book of Negroes has won the hearts of people everywhere as it tells the story of a woman fighting for her life during the slave trade of the 18th century. The African girl, Aminata Diallo, is stolen from her family at the age of 11 and sold into slavery.

This highly praised novel enlightens a history of Nova Scotia that many will have not heard of before.聽 It is a story of courage, persistence, and survival. This page-turner will move you to tears.聽

A book signing in the lobby will follow the lecture.
