When Kyle Phipps left his hometown of Miramichi, New Brunswick, he had no idea what 麻豆传媒 had in store for him. Now, with a PhD in biochemistry under his belt and a month into Dal鈥檚 med school, he鈥檚 ready to tackle just about anything. His secret? Hard work, a passion for medicine and medical sciences, and feeding off the momentum of others.
Although Dr. Phipps chose Dal for its strong science background and solid research component, he was still unsure of where exactly an undergrad in science would lead him.
鈥淚 didn鈥檛 know exactly where undergraduate training in biochemistry would take me, however the path was clear after my first research experiences in my 4th 测别补谤.鈥
His research project in his undergrad honours program gave him a strong scientific foundation that allowed for an easy transition into the field of cancer research for his PhD studies. He successfully defended his thesis in August of this year, only a few days before starting medical school where he hopes to continue studying in oncology.聽
Sometime between making the dean鈥檚 list and writing the MCAT, Dr. Phipps found time to play for the Dal rugby team, organize the Dal Best Buddies program, volunteer with the Special Olympics and be a TA in biochemistry. To say he鈥檚 busy would be an understatement.
鈥淪ometimes it can be challenging to keep the momentum going, but for me doing what you enjoy doesn鈥檛 seem like actual work鈥 he says. 鈥淚鈥檓 lucky because I鈥檝e found things I love and am able to continue studying them and someday pursue a career in them.鈥
Despite the busy lifestyle, Dr. Phipps is certain none of his accomplishments would have been possible without the love and support of his family.
鈥淢y parents have been incredibly supportive during my academic career. I don鈥檛 know where I would be without them.鈥
