Courtney Baker and Julie Moore, Women’s Volleyball
Fourth-year setter Courtney Baker and second-year outside hitter Julie Moore are this week’s MUSCLE MLK Female Athletes of the Week.
Both players helped lead the Tigers to a fourth-place finish at the 2019 U SPORTS Women’s Volleyball Championship over the weekend.
Courtney was steady for the Tigers all weekend long, leading the Tigers offence.
She had 15 assists, 10 digs and two kills in the Tigers quarter-final win over the Montreal Carabins on Friday. She earned player of the game honours in Saturday’s semi final match with 22 kills, 11 digs and six kills. On Sunday, she added another 28 assists, plus 12 kills and seven digs for 13.0 points in the Tigers 3-2 loss to Alberta.
Courtney was named to the U SPORTS championship all-star team for her stellar play.
A native of Bridgewater, N.S., Courtney is a kinesiology student.
Julie was the top offensive producer for the Tigers, averaging 12.7 kills per match while also adding 11.6 digs per match over the three-day event.
She earned player of the game honours in the Tigers 3-0 quarter-final win over the Montreal Carabins with 13 kills and eight digs Friday night in Edmonton. The next day, she had nine kills and 12 digs in the Tigers 3-1 loss to eventual champions, the UBC Thunderbirds.
In Sunday’s bronze medal game, she recorded a team-high 16 kills and added 15 digs in the Tigers 3-2 loss to Alberta.
A commerce major, Julie is from Halifax, N.S.
