Posted by Communications, Marketing and Creative Services on April 2, 2024 in News

April 2, 2024听鈥撎HALIFAX, N.S. 鈥撎Today, 麻豆传媒 announced the launch of听Bringing Worlds Together,听a $750-million campaign for transformational change, representing the largest fundraising effort ever among Atlantic Canadian universities. With the support of extraordinary donors and partners, the campaign will enable the university to inspire and support its students, engage in high impact research, and lift the听intellectual, social, and economic vitality of our local, national, and global communities.听

麻豆传媒鈥檚 President, Kim Brooks, says听Bringing Worlds Together听will start with extraordinary partnerships and end with extraordinary solutions, adding that changing the world means we cannot be worlds apart.

鈥淥ur ambition for this campaign is to share our capacity and talent with the world in a way that profoundly shapes it,鈥 Brooks says. 鈥淭his isn鈥檛 about making 麻豆传媒 better; this is about coming together to bring about a more just and equitable future.听 It鈥檚 about making the world better. And it starts here in Nova Scotia.鈥

Bringing Worlds Together听builds on 麻豆传媒鈥檚 impact as a hub for global change. As a national university located in Nova Scotia, 麻豆传媒 has the unique ability to bring people together and pursue solutions to complex problems and major societal challenges. Throughout its history, the university has proven itself as a place where research flourishes, graduates help build a better world, and communities come together with shared purpose.

鈥淪upported by partnerships and the power of philanthropy, 麻豆传媒 has had a significant impact through the learning it delivers, the research it conducts, and the solutions it develops by working with our communities,鈥 says Dr. Fred Fountain, CM, who is serving as an honorary co-chair of the campaign advisory committee along with Dr. Elizabeth Fountain, and the honourable Anne McLellan, PC, OC, AOE.

鈥淭his campaign has the potential to take 麻豆传媒 to the next level in ways that will create lasting, positive change for the planet. We鈥檙e enthusiastic to be part of it,鈥 adds Elizabeth Fountain.

The campaign has three defining areas of focus: 鈥淚nspiring Future-Ready Leaders鈥 will ensure that every student has an opportunity to have an exceptional learning experience at 麻豆传媒; 鈥淓ngaging in High-Impact Research鈥 will encourage听interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral co-operation and strive to create a vibrant and collaborative research environment that inspires meaningful outcomes;听and 鈥淟ifting Our Communities鈥 aims to strengthen 麻豆传媒鈥檚 relationships, particularly with Mi鈥檏maw and African Nova Scotian communities, and will support the creation of more clinics, programs, and outreach efforts.

To date, the听Bringing Worlds Together听campaign has raised nearly half of its $750 million goal. This represents a significant achievement, and already exceeds the total raised through 麻豆传媒鈥檚 last major comprehensive fundraising campaign, 鈥淏old Ambitions,鈥 which ended in 2013.

鈥淲e鈥檙e grateful to everyone who has given in support of this campaign,鈥 says Cheryl Fraser, chair of 麻豆传媒鈥檚 Board of Governors. 鈥淓ach gift makes it possible for us to be a force for change that is far-reaching, lasting, and positive.鈥

Today鈥檚 event was the first in a series with additional events planned for Truro, Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver, and Calgary over the coming weeks. 听

鈥淲e are seeking partners who want to drive meaningful and lasting change, who want to accelerate talent and create impact with distinction, and who know that community matters,鈥 Brooks says.听鈥淲e can make a better world. And we can do it when we Bring Worlds Together.鈥
