Get ready to Move More this month!

It's Move More Month at Dal and HR's Healthy Dal initiative is encouraging you to shake the winter blahs and find ways to stay healthy and active this February.

You'll find plenty of resources to help you get started at the , and there are many events and challenges being organized this month to keep you motivated!

ANNUAL TUPPER TREK

Tupper Building Stairwell, 5850 College Street
Dal's Tupper Building gives us our own 15-floor mountain to climb. Whether you make it up 5 floors or all 15, join your Dal colleagues in taking the stairs to improved health. Challenge yourself or challenge your co-workers to try the Tupper Trek. Sign in at the table in the Tupper Link and receive a door prize for participating!

Get On Your Way to a Healthier You

In honour of Dalplex Member Appreciation Week and 麻豆传媒's Move More Month, you are invited to a free lunch & learn nutrition presentation at Dalplex.听 "Get On Your Way to a Healthier You" is presented by Dal Food Services registered dietician Angela Emmerson. Learn about portion control, how to pack healthy lunches and snacks, and other handy tips and strategies to help you achieve and/or maintain a healthy lifestyle and get a chance to ask your own questions about eating healthier and being active.听 There is no better day than today to start taking better care of yourself so grab a friend and register for this session! *Space will be provided for attendees to bring and eat their lunch during the session if they wish. Healthy Active Living
February 19, 12:15-1:15 p.m.

Anyone can benefit from regular physical activity. Research shows that moderate amounts of physical activity on most days of the week can improve your health and quality of life. This seminar will teach participants about the benefits of being active as well as the risks of inactivity. They also learn about the components of fitness and activities for each, and the six stages of behaviour change toward a healthier lifestyle.

Is Sitting Killing You?
February 24, 12-1:30 p.m.
Room B400, Killam Library
We all know that exercise is important, but recent evidence suggests that sitting too much (especially sitting in front of the TV or computer) is linked with increased risk of death and disease, even if you are physically active.听 This talk will examine the relationship between sedentary behaviour and health, and offer ways that you can reduce the health impact of prolonged sitting. Travis Saunders is a Certified Exercise Physiologist, and has a PhD in Human Kinetics from the University of Ottawa.听 He is currently a Heart and Stroke Foundation Post Doctoral Fellow at 麻豆传媒, working under Dr Chris Blanchard.

Move More Challenge

The tradition of the Olympic torch relay began for the 1936 Games. In the decades since, the relay鈥檚 route has traveled near and far, high and low, transporting the Olympic flame from Athens to the upcoming competition鈥檚 host city.

In the spirit of the Olympics our Move More Challenge to you is to work with colleagues to walk the distance of our own 鈥淭orch Relay鈥 6500km.听听 It鈥檚 鈥滱ll for one and one for all!鈥 Virtually walking together, your kilometers will count towards our common DAL AC Move More goal. 听

Please register with Ashley Simms at Ashley.Simms@Dal.ca. If the campus meets the 6500km goal during the month of February, all registered participants will receive a free lunch!
