WORK ASSIGNMENT:Ìý The part-time academic instructor will be responsible for teaching NURS1030.03 – Human Development and Health I: Adults and Healthy Aging during the Winter term of the academic year 2014-2015.

N1030 is a three credit course that uses a social determinants of health framework to introduce students to the key physiological changes and developmental processes that occur with adults. The students will focus on the aging process, its influence on the physical, psychosocial, cultural and spiritual health of adults, and nursing practices that promote health in adults at specific development stages. These include practices that utilize direct caregiving by individual nurses, and that involve collaboration with family, resource persons and community services. The students will also be expected to identify non-nursing caregivers who are key to caregiving in a healthy aging, adult population.

The course is embedded in a primary health care philosophy that values the knowledge gained from the personal experience of the client as well as from expert nursing knowledge in planning care for adults. The course develops some essential caregiving concepts introduced in N1000. These concepts include health and community assessment, communication, caring and nursing roles.

Lectures of three hours are held on Fridays weekly, 1135-1425 from January 5, 2015 until April 10, 2015.
This contract runs from January 1, 2015 through April 30, 2015. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

WORK ASSIGNMENT:Ìý The part-time academic instructor will be responsible for teaching NURS1220.03 – Knowledge and Process in Nursing Practice I during the Winter term of the academic year 2014-2015.

The course is designed to help students develop beginning competence in the use of health assessment. Comprehensive health assessments are integrated as a basis for clinical intervention inherent in the caring role. In addition, students are introduced to the organizational and work role competencies required for clinical practice.

This is a 3 credit hour course with 2 lecture hours and 2 lab hours per week. Classes are scheduled on Tuesdays 9:35 – 11:25 hours, from January 5, 2015 – April 10, 2015.

This contract runs from January 1, 2015 through April 30, 2015. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

WORK ASSIGNMENT:Ìý The part-time academic instructor will be responsible for teaching NURS2280.03 – Care of Adults I during the Winter term of the academic year 2014-2015.

Students learn to integrate nursing knowledge and processes in the care of adults coping with chronic illnesses. Emphasis is placed on the integration of primary health care concepts as related to alterations in health status. Students further develop knowledge and skills during clinical simulation experiences in laboratory and tutorial settings.

This is a 3 credit hour course with 2 lecture hours per week, plus clinical simulation experiential learning equivalent to 78 hours of clinical practice. This position focuses on the didactic teaching of course material with a co-instructor to lead the clinical simulation learning. Classes will be held on Tuesday, 1235-1425 starting January 5, 2015 until April 10, 2015.

This contract runs from January 1, 2015 through April 30, 2015. The part-time academic instructor reports directly to the Associate Director, Undergraduate Studies.

The purpose of this course (3 credit hours) is to introduce the students to the legal and moral dimensions of health care as they relate, in both theory and practice, to the context of contemporary nursing. The focus of the course will be on providing the learner with the knowledge and skills required to engage in fruitful moral and legal reflection and action throughout their years of education and practice. Part of this focus will centre on the process of ethical decision making in a problem context and on exploring the importance of a broader perspective on the moral and social dimensions of everyday nursing practice.

WORK ASSIGNMENT:Ìý The part-time academic instructor will be responsible for teaching NURS3270.03 – Nursing Practice: Caring for Families during the Winter term of the academic year 2014-2015.

Guided by the principles of primary health care, students focus on families and family health with an emphasis on a thorough understanding of family assessment and developing family therapeutic relationship skills. Students examine family health and health issues from a nursing, cultural, sociological, psychological, and other theoretical perspectives as they relate to nursing practice that focuses on working with families in all settings. Upon completion of the course, students will have developed competencies required to use a systems approach when working with families. Laboratory and clinical experiences that include visiting families in their homes to provide the students with opportunities to integrate, discuss, and practice family nursing.
