The year 2014 marks the 10th anniversary of the Pengrowth-Nova Scotia Energy Innovation Grant, awarded to students beginning a master's level program in business, engineering, environmental science or earth science at a Nova Scotia university.

Natasha Morrison, a master's student in Earth Sciences, is the Â鶹´«Ã½ grant recipient this year. Her research specializes in petroleum geoscience and will focus on the geochemistry and source rock potential of the Scotian Basin.

"The Energy Innovation Grant is an incredible funding opportunity for master's students to pursue new avenues of energy-related research," said Ms. Morrison. "This grant will allow me to complete further geochemical analysis and data modelling to help better understand the source rocks in offshore Nova Scotia."

In 2011, Dal earth sciences graduate, Darragh O'Connor, received the grant for his research examining elements of specific sediments that make up the Mesozoic basins off Nova Scotia. Just last year, another of Dal's own, won the grant for her research focusing on unraveling the evolutionary history of salt structures, which are an important mechanism for trapping oil and gas.
