Instructor, Full-time Career Stream

The Integrated Science Program in the Faculty of Science at 鶹ý invites applications for a full-time career stream Instructor position commencing July 1, 2017. The appointment will be made at the rank of Instructor for the successful candidate.

The Integrated Science Program is an integrated, alternative, and hands-on way for science students to complete their first-year of university. For more information see .

This position is devoted solely to the Integrated Science Program. Primary duties include: program direction, including curriculum development, student recruitment, and liaising with science faculty outside of the program; program administration; class coordination, including leading program faculty meetings, and coordinating class schedules and room bookings; coordination and delivery of first-year Biology lectures and activities, including laboratories and field trips; coordination of, and participation in, integrated lectures and activities; coordination and delivery of the writing in science component, including the research project; supervision and evaluation of first-year research projects; compiling student marks; and student advising and mentoring.

The instructor will work in collaboration with other Integrated Science faculty to place instruction of first-year science into a broad context and to integrate the development of scientific skills within the program. The position reports to the Dean of Science. Salary is determined by the DFA Collective Agreement, depending on qualifications and experience.

The position requires a Ph.D. in Biology or a related field, with teaching and/or research experience in several of the following areas: cell biology, genetics, evolution, molecular biology, animal biology, plant biology, and ecology. The successful candidate will have outstanding leadership skills, a proven record of excellence in teaching undergraduate students, outstanding supervision and mentoring skills, excellent organizational skills, proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Learning Management Systems, and a strong interest in integrated approaches to teaching science. Previous experience teaching in an integrated science program will be considered an asset.
