Teaching and Learning Enhanc​​ement Grant​​

These grants will provide support for Â鶹´«Ã½ educators who are interested in engaging in projects to enhance teaching and learning, through the design and development of new or alternative approaches to enhance student learning at the course, department or Faculty level. The overall aim of these grants is to foster deep and impactful student learning and promote faculty members’ professional development of teaching.

The objectives of this grant program include:

  • Enhancing the learning experience of students at Â鶹´«Ã½.
  • Supporting Â鶹´«Ã½ teaching and learning strategic priorities to transform teaching and learning including, but not limited to, first-year undergraduate education, experiential and work-integrated learning, undergraduate research, e-learning, and interdisciplinary, international and indigenous approaches to learning.
  • Supporting projects that could include, but are not limited to, course or program design (all modalities), assessment techniques, teaching strategies, e-learning, or creating new active learning opportunities aimed at increasing student engagement.
  • Providing faculty with opportunities for professional development of teaching.

Eligibility

Each project team must be led by a full-time faculty member to ensure the long-term sustainability of the project, however non-academic staff and limited term and part-time faculty members may be co-applicants. Limited-term faculty who are project leads, must have at least one year remaining in their contract term.

Amount of Award

Up to $3,000 may be awarded to each project.

Requirements

1.    Project Plan (see grant website for more information).

2.    A detailed budget is required with justification for each item (where salaries are submitted, 4% vacation pay should be added). Please include a list of any additional resources (e.g., funding, release time, equipment etc.) that will be provided to the project from other sources.

3.    If you are planning to seek assistance from CLT staff as part of your project (e.g., support of online course design from an instructional designer), please seek confirmation in writing that assistance will be available with key staff member(s) during the time frame required, prior to submitting your proposal.

4.    Statement of support from the head of the relevant teaching unit (department, school, Faculty) that includes: Description of any additional resources (e.g., funding, release time, equipment, etc.) to be provided to the project and a description of the value of the project, in particular the pedagogical impact on students.

5.    Participation in a Fall Teaching Forum where grant recipients share their course or program enhancement with other grant recipients and the Â鶹´«Ã½ community. In addition, a brief, written, final report must be submitted to CLT within 18 months of receiving the grant, outlining the outcomes of the project (500-1,000 words).
