Posted by Security Services on August 5, 2021 in General Announcements

Faculty/Staff General (full year & fall term) and Reserved Parking passes are now on sale and can be purchased online at . NetID and password is required for authentication through online sales portal.

Updated information on parking rules, rates and procedures for 2021-2022 can now be found at the Parking website.

Procedures for 2021-22

Permits purchased before September 1st can be used on campus throughout August 2021 to assist with returns to campus.

Individuals whose reserved spots were held last year due to COVID-19 will be contacted to confirm whether they will be purchasing their reserved spot for 2021-22. Spots cannot be held this year with faculty, staff and students returning to campus.

Â鶹´«Ã½ is also offering a new way of paying for short-term parking beginning September 1. Faculty, staff, students and community members will be able to pay for parking at campus meters and Pay & Display (P&D) lots using the HotSpot app — the same app used for parking elsewhere in HRM. Rates for short-term parking remain $2 per hour (6 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.) A day rate option at meters and P&D lots is $14 (6 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.), General parking is FREE OF CHARGE between 4:30 p.m. – 1:30 a.m. There is no OVERNIGHT parking on campus beyond 1:30 a.m. Users can pay via HotSpot, at Pay & Display stations, or at meters.

Rates for 2021-22

Last year, parking fees were charged at the previous year’s rates due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This year, with faculty, staff and students returning to campus, rate increases of 1.0% for 2020-21 and 1.25% for 2021-22 will be applied. That amounts to roughly $7-8 per year + tax for a general pass, $16 a year + tax for outdoor reserved lots, and $31-37 a year + tax for indoor reserved lots.

Parking fees are an important revenue source that funds critical campus operations including grounds and lot maintenance, snow clearing and storm cleanup. Parking rates generally increase each year by a modest amount.

Â鶹´«Ã½ parking rates remain extremely competitive compared to most parking in downtown Halifax, where annual rates can range from $1,600-$2,400. Our short-term parking also has a daily maximum cheaper than in downtown Halifax.

We appreciate there may be some faculty and staff exploring more flexible work arrangements this year. At this time, we are unable to offer different parking models than our current offerings. Individuals who are planning or expecting to be on campus less often this year may wish to consider paying for daily parking in a Pay and Display lot or at meters. If you plan to be on campus an average of more than once per week, a general pass is likely your best option.
