has been issued for Halifax and Colchester counties ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Fiona this weekend. Effects of the storm — potentially severe — are expected to be felt across the Atlantic provinces Friday night into Saturday.
Faculty and staff, as well as students who work on campus, are reminded to plan to securely close and lock all windows and unplug computers and other electronic devices as appropriate when they leave campus for the week. Any non-secure outdoor furniture should be secured outdoors or brought indoors.
Environment Canada advises that personal household preparations and emergency kits should be completed prior to the start of inclement weather. This would include sufficient food and water for up to 72 hours, means to charge cellular phones if lacking a landline and securing or removing outdoor furniture. Hazardous travel is likely and alternative travel plans should be sought in advance.
Security Services will be closely monitoring the storm. For campus alerts in the event of closures, hazards and other significant, urgent events affecting the university, download the DalSAFE app on iOS or Android.
