Canadian Citizenship Ceremony

Francoise Baylis, a bioethicist who gave the address during Monday鈥檚 ceremony, said in an interview she鈥檚 concerned by Trump鈥檚 actions and the recent emergence of opposition from several MPs to a parliamentary motion condemning Islamophobia and racism.

鈥淚鈥檓 very mindful of the broader political and social context we鈥檙e in now,鈥 she said. 鈥淚 want to follow our prime minister in terms of 鈥 we鈥檙e going to be positive, we鈥檙e going to be open, we鈥檙e going to be welcoming and we鈥檙e going to give out a very clear message that if you want strength you get it through diversity.鈥

鈥淭hese ceremonies are a reminder to Canadians of what we have.鈥
