Aquaculture is one of the fastest growing food industries in the world representing almost half of the world’s fish production. This major will prepare you for a dynamic career in the increasingly global aquatic agri-food sector. Here, you will be immersed into a comprehensive learning experience with both your hands and your mind. A minor in Aquaculture will provide you with an area of secondary concentration to customize your degree.

Admission requirements

Minimum admission requirements

To be considered for admission to this program, you must meet minimum academic criteria:

  1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
  2. Achievement of the minimum average for your program of choice.
  3. Completion of Grade 12 English (or equivalent course).

Admission to many Â鶹´«Ã½ programs is competitive. This means that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Program-specific admission requirements

Bachelor of Science Agriculture requirements: 

  • Minimum overall average: 75% 

  • Academic English 12 

  • Pre-calculus Math 12* 

  • Three additional academic subjects 

*If you don't have the appropriate pre-calculus math class, but are otherwise qualified, you may be admitted with the stipulation that you take the relevant non-credit introductory studies class in first year prior to registering in the degree level class 

Minor in Aquaculture eligibility: 

This minor is available to students registered in the following 120 credit hour programs: 

  • Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) - except for Aquaculture majors. 

  • Bachelor of Arts 

  • Bachelor of Science  

  • Bachelor of Science (Medical Sciences)

Program options

This degree has a large hands-on learning component, giving you real-world experience to prepare you for your future career related to Aquaculture.  If you choose to pursue an honours degree, you will design and implement your own research project in your fourth-year.

What you will learn

Completing studies in Aquaculture at the Â鶹´«Ã½ Faculty of Agriculture blends classroom, laboratory, project and field work. You will develop strengths and gain knowledge in three main areas: aquaculture, aquatic science, and hands-on experience.

Our Aquaculture Facility is located on campus and offers 8,100 square feet of well-equipped laboratories and aquatic-rearing facilities with fresh and salt water to nurture fish, grow plankton and manage water quality. Our intimate classroom sizes give you an opportunity to be part of your professor’s research and learn first-hand from these experts.
