Why choose this program?

Electrical Engineering is the study of how to design, develop and test electrical devices. It requires a knowledge of mathematics, electricity, electromagnetism, and electronics and it covers the fields of power, control systems, telecommunications and signal processing. As a student, you will have an opportunity contribute to advancements in applied science and technology through your senior year industrial design projects and co-op work terms.

Admission requirements

Minimum admission requirements

To be considered for admission to this program, you must meet minimum academic criteria:

  1. Completion of secondary school (Grade 12)
  2. Achievement of the minimum average for your program of choice.

Admission to many Â鶹´«Ã½ programs is competitive. This means that meeting minimum requirements does not guarantee admission.

Program-specific admission requirements

  • Minimum overall average: 70%
  • Academic English 12
  • Pre-calculus Math 12
  • Academic Chemistry 12
  • Academic Physics 12
  • One additional academic subject

This program may employ a competitive average for admission purposes. Therefore, meeting minimum posted requirements does not guarantee admission.

Financial information

A university education is a significant financial investment. Every student is unique, and so are their financial circumstances. We offer competitive tuition, a robust scholarship and bursary program, and resources and support to help you explore financial options and develop a plan that works for you.Ìý

Program options

Undergraduate students have the option of following a co-op program (five years) or a non-co-op program (four years).

The following electrical engineering program options are offered by Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Agriculture. Connect with an academic advisor after you start your studies to explore options such as:

  • Bachelor of Engineering (for degrees only)

What you will learn

In the first two years of their degree, all engineering students complete the Core Engineering Program. You can take this Program either on the Sexton Campus in Halifax or the Agricultural Campus in Truro. You will study math, science, engineering science, and design, developing a broad foundation in engineering.

At the end of your first year, you can apply to one of our six tailored engineering disciplines including electrical and computer engineering. Placement in a specific discipline is competitive and based on academic performance in the first year.

Sample courses may include:

  • Engineering Design and Graphics I

  • Engineering Chemistry I

  • Applied Linear Algebra

  • Applied Vector Calculus

  • Thermo-Fluid EngineeringÌý

  • Applied Probability and Statistics

  • Electromechanics

  • MicroprocessorsÌý

  • Electromagnetic Waves and Propagation

  • Digital Signal Processing

  • Modern Control Systems

  • Digital Control Systems

Electrical and Computer engineers dream and invent the technologies of our future. Today’s society relies heavily on electrical, electronic and computer technology, creating a strong need for these types of engineers.
