New to Dal programming provides new students opportunities to connect with each other online and in-person before your first semester and during your first year at Dal. Our goal is to make your transition to Â鶹´«Ã½ as successful and positive as possible.

Â鶹´«Ã½Ìýis excited to welcome new students to the Winter 2025 semester with theÌýWinter Welcome Week, taking place from January 4-12, 2025 on the Halifax campuses.Ìý

Winter Welcome Week 2025 Schedule

  • Winter Welcome Day
    Date: 
    Saturday, January 4 (10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.)
    Location: 

All new Â鶹´«Ã½ students are invited to attend Winter Welcome Day, an orientation event specifically for new students. Spend the day learning about university supports/resources, engaging in workshops to help you settle into life in Halifax, and connecting with fellow students! We ask that students

  • Together@Dal Hot Chocolate and Cookies
    Date: 
    Monday, January 6 (11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.)
    Location: 

Warm up with a cup of hot chocolate and some freshly baked cookies while you meet other students in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere. This is a great chance to relax, chat, and feel more at home at Â鶹´«Ã½. 

  • Trivia Challenge

    Tuesday, January 7 (4:00 to 6:00 p.m.)
    Location: 

Test your knowledge and meet new friends at our Trivia Challenge! From pop culture to Â鶹´«Ã½ facts, this event will have questions for everyone. Enjoy refreshments and win some fun prizes.

  • Dalplex Pool Party
    Date
    : Friday, January 10 (7:00 to 9:00 p.m.)
    Location

Kick-off the new year with a spectacular beach-themed pool party at the Dalplex pool. Dive into the fun with water games, inflatables, aqua fitness, and the hottest winter tunes. Bring your sunglasses, flip-flops, and beach towel.

  • Dal Gives Back

Start the year off right by giving back to the community! Dal Gives Back is a volunteer event where students come together to make a positive impact on campus or in the Halifax community. It’s a meaningful way to meet people and contribute to a good cause. 


New to Dal Programming


New To Dal features a range of student-centredÌýprogramming that supports students coming direct from high school, mature or transfer students, and students travelling from outside of Canada. Our programming and events will introduce you to important academic info, communities on campus, support services, and resources available on campus. We provide a welcoming, safe, inclusive, and accessible experience for all Â鶹´«Ã½ students and their Family & Friends.ÌýNew to Dal programs are also focused on harm reduction and are substance-free.

Programs include:

New to Dal - In-Person Events (Halifax students)

New to Dal programming introduces new students to important academic info, communities on campus, social engagement opportunities, support services, and resources available on campus.

New to Dal offers specific sessions and events offered through the International CentreBlack Student Advising CentreIndigenous Student Centre, the Bissett Student Success Centre, and Able@Dal.

New to Dal - Agricultural Campus (Truro students)

New to Dal AC programming incorporates all the important information you need to make lasting connections with your fellow Aggies and be successful in your first year of university and beyond! Hosted by your Â鶹´«Ã½ Agricultural Student Association and the Student Success Centre team, events are open to all new students attending the Â鶹´«Ã½ campus in Truro. Programs will use interactive tools and activities to educate students on the essential support services that are available to help you succeed. Join us this fall to connect with your campus community and start building engaging and supportive relationships with fellow students, staff, and instructors.

Brightspace Course

The  includes videos that help new students prepare for university and provides tips and tools for success. Each section contains videos that cover a wide range of topics, including academic expectations, how to manage your money, taking care of your health, and more. 

Together@Dal

Together@Dal is a mentorship program for new students that provides a great way for you to meet other students, develop a sense of academic belonging, and become connected to the university community before and during your first year. Registration is now open!

Together@Dal (Grad Edition)

Together@Dal: Grad Edition is for graduate students across the university's departments and campuses, and will help you prepare to start your degree. Learn about resources available to you and professional development programming built exclusively for you.

(also known as "O-Week") offers fun and interactive events for new students, including music, movies, games and much more!
