After contributing to ITS for over two decades, Barbara Taylor embarked on her next adventure: retirement.

Her Dal journey began as a grad student, and her first job within the institution was in the Fenwick office during the 1980s. 聽After that, she spent a summer as a co-op student in Oceanography and another in the Math department.

Following 15 years of experience in private-sector consulting, Barbara joined Dal, where she served as a systems analyst for 21 years.

鈥淚 did a lot of different things; the best part was designing and building custom applications, interfaces with other systems, and implementation projects,鈥� she said.

Reflecting on her time at Dal fills Barabara with gratitude and pride.

鈥淚 built some useful applications聽and have tried to encourage collaboration within EAS, especially in our development team,鈥� she celebrates. 鈥淚 enjoyed supporting and collaborating with my coworkers, solving problems, improving things and engaging with clients.鈥�

Describing her favourite work memories, Barbara misses the times before the COVID-19 pandemic: office potlucks, hanging out in the聽lunchroom and having interesting conversations about pretty much anything.

Barbara says that working in a university is pleasant, as there are always things going on around campus: lectures, music recitals, and conferences. 鈥淚 liked seeing students return in the fall and graduate in the spring,鈥� she says.

Always up for a new challenge, Barbara has a lot of interests and plans to keep busy in retirement. She wants to learn new languages and try her hand at building things, gardening, and artwork. 聽Having recently started taking piano lessons, she'd also love to give back by volunteering or teaching.
