Research collaboration agreements are used to formalize industry-sponsored research partnerships. Generally in these cases companies are seeking a research and development (R&D) partnership to establish competitive advantages in the marketplace (e.g., solving a specific problem in response to an industry need for fundamental research, and/or testing and further development of a technology).听
