Radiation Safety
Research and teaching activities at Â鶹´«Ã½ use many different sources of radiation in the form of nuclear substances and radiation emitting devices.Ìý
Â鶹´«Ã½ has a Nuclear Substance and Radiation Device License issued by the CNSC. To view sections 1-5 of this document, please access Ìý
The Â鶹´«Ã½ consolidated licence is only for use in research and does not authorize the use of nuclear substances in or on human beings.Ìý
Radiation Safety Program
The Radiation Safety Program aims to minimize the risk of exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and provides the knowledge and training necessary to work safely in compliance with CNSC regulations.Ìý
The Radiation Safety Program includes several important components to ensure the safe use of nuclear substances and radioactive devices for research at Â鶹´«Ã½. Key elements of the Radiation Safety Program include:Ìý
- Purchasing
- Radiation Safety Manual
- ±Ê±ð°ù³¾¾±³Ù²õÌý
- Training and AwarenessÌý
- Dosimetry Services
- Lab Monitoring and TestingÌý
- Record Keeping
- Disposal
Important:
A Nuclear Substance User Permit is required to conduct research with nuclear substances (sealed and unsealed sources) at Â鶹´«Ã½.
Radiation safety training is a pre-requisite for any personnel who will work in a nuclear substance lab (sealed and unsealed sources) at Â鶹´«Ã½.
