Connecting locally with global issues of food security and food sovereignty
An evening of delicious locally prepared global cuisine, AC student performances and great conversation about food security. Keynote speakers Dr. Chibuike Udenigwe and Dr. Lord Abbey from the Faculty of Agriculture will speak to the global and local dimensions of food security.
Their joint address will cover topics including: the need for a cultural shift in what is considered to be acceptable food--embracing 鈥渦gly vegetables鈥 and imperfect produce to reduce waste, and considering alternative sources of proteins, like edible insects鈥攁nd the need for government and governance bodies to prioritize safe, secure, and sustainable food systems. Local organizations working in food security will give an overview of their work and how community members can get involved.
You鈥檙e invited to grab a cricket cookie (or cricket-free samosa!), and become part of the discussion of food security and food sovereignty in Nova Scotia and beyond!
