Something for everyone
At the School for Resource and Environmental Studies (SRES), we offer a breadth of classes, research opportunities and internships that are designed to help you make a difference in the world.
No matter where you are in your educational journey, you will develop your knowledge of natural resource management and environmental studies. You’ll also get to learn from and work side-by-side with professors whose expertise is sought after around the world from industry, government and NGOs.
Master of Environmental Studies Program (MES)
This two-year program will give you the opportunity to create and share knowledge that will generate positive change in the world. You’ll choose a pressing issue related to resources, environment or human wellbeing and the environment, and focus research and a thesis around your discoveries. The program’s balance of courses and peer interaction allows you to explore a broad range of issues.

Master of Resource and Environmental Management (MREM)
The MREM is a 16-month course-based program that’s designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge you need to pursue a career in natural resource and environmental management. With a curriculum that combines coursework, an internship and a project report, you’ll build a well-rounded combination of knowledge and experience that will serve you well in your future career.

Interdisciplinary PhD
There is currently two SSHRC funded PhD opportunities related to Canadian food sustainability available. One is with the University of Waterloo (starting ASAP) and the other is with Â鶹´«Ã½ (starting in Fall 2018). For description and how to apply please see the .
Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s Interdisciplinary PhD program lets you focus your doctorate on three or more departments in the university. If you want to include natural resource or environmental management issues, your best option is an Interdisciplinary PhD that includes SRES. Previous dissertations have included topics such as how humans value and perceive urban forests will be affected by climate change, and addressing the environmental challenges associated with livestock production globally.

Bachelor of Management Program
Are you an aspiring undergraduate looking for a way to develop a well-rounded understanding of management practices? The Bachelor of Management program could be your answer. Taking SRES classes will help you develop a deeper understanding of how humans interact with their environment, and how we can manage our resources more responsibly.
