One‑Minute Meeting with Jen Davis

Posted by Communications, Marketing and Creative Services on June 7, 2022 in Community Highlights

Three questions, each answered in 150 words or less. One-Minute Meeting is a quick, easy way to get to know more about your colleagues.

Today's meeting is with Jen Davis, Manager of the Student Accessibility Centre with Student Affairs. She is also a licensed occupational therapist.

What’s your favourite thing about working at Dal?

Just like many other people featured in the One-Minute Meeting say: it’s the people! Whether it’s my amazing team, the dedicated and driven students I work with or the caring faculty and staff, Â鶹´«Ã½ really does have the best people. I have met some amazing people during my ten years at Â鶹´«Ã½, many of whom have become great friends. I’m amazed every day by the dedication and compassion of the people at Â鶹´«Ã½. It really is a fantastic place to work and I feel very fortunate to be here.

Which has been more valuable in your career, your education or your experience, and why?

It is impossible to separate one from the other, so I will say both. My education in occupational therapy has been crucial to my career and has led me directly to my current position. However, my work experience, specifically my volunteer experience in crisis intervention/suicide prevention led me to my education in occupational therapy. My career path has had a few twists and turns over the years and has never had a direct path from education to experience. I lean on my experience regularly when I work with students and my education (specifically my Masters in Occupational Therapy Post-Professional) has been indispensable in my role as Manager. Ìý

What is one daily habit you've adopted that you feel has benefitted you in your work?

Listening to music. I play music almost all day and it is a rare time if I don’t have music playing in my office. The right music helps me to focus, to lighten my mood or even to provide a backdrop for my work. If I am certain that I am completely alone, I might also dance along, but you will never catch me doing it!
