The Structural Assessment and Retrofit (SAR) research group explores unique methods to assess the integrity of existing structures and innovate cutting-edge structural repair and upgrade technologies.
We put our collective energy to address the urgent need to develop sustainable and resilient infrastructure as supported by Canada’s Federal Sustainable Development Strategy (FSDS).
At SAR, we focus on transferring new technologies related to assessment and retrofit of structures from labs and spreadsheets to real-life applications. Activity highlights at SAR include:
Research
Develop new retrofit technologies using smart materials and develop computer applications to assess the safety of existing structures.
Training
Train highly qualified personnel (Master, PhD, and Post-doctoral) in the specialized area of structural assessment and retrofit.
Code Development
Contribute toward the development of national and international building codes including the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) and American Concrete Institute (ACI).
Industry support
Deliver technical presentations and provide help in speciality projects related to structural assessment and retrofit.
