Research groups and labs
The College of Pharmacy is housed in the historic Burbridge Building close to the centre of the university campus. Our skills and research laboratories contain a wide range of highly specialized, state-of-the-art instrumentation. The college also sits next to the Sir Charles Tupper Building, the central building of Â鶹´«Ã½â€™s medical school and home to the W.K. Kellogg Health Sciences Library.
Pharmacokinetics and Metabolism Lab
- Location: Burbidge Building Rm. 209
- Lead researcher: Pollen K.F. Yeung, PhD
Our research focuses on the area of pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism and biomarker assessment for traditional prescription and complimentary medicines. Our lab is equipped with modern high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) equipment and facilities for biologic sample storage and manipulation, computer facilities for data analyses as well as a designated area for animal surgery and experimentation.
The Jakeman Research Group
- Location: Burbidge Building Rm. B10
- Lead researcher: David Jakeman, PhD
Our research efforts are directed toward the synthesis and isolation of new chemical entities and how to use them to characterize and analyze enzymes and biological systems of significant potential in infection, immunity or cancer.

Biopharmaceutics and Drug Delivery Lab
- Location: Burbidge Building Rm. 218
- Lead researcher: Remi U. Agu, PhD
Our research focus is to develop and optimize novel respiratory drug delivery systems and screening methods. This involves basic, applied and translational research that spans drug transporter screening, hormone and cannabinoid delivery for hyperthyroidism and inflammatory diseases, respectively, sustained local drug delivery for chronic sinusitis and ciliatoxicity screening.
